Professor Micha de Winter (1951) occupies an endowed chair at HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht. In addition, he is Professor of Youth, Education and Society at Utrecht University. From 2004 on, he served as Faculty Professor, occupying what is known as the Langeveld Chair.
Micha de Winter collaborates with his PhD candidates and colleagues on research into subjects like democratic civic education and radicalisation. In addition, he serves as chair of the Commissie Geweld in de Jeugdzorg (‘Violence in Youth Welfare Committee’), which has been tasked by the Dutch government to investigate possible violence against minors committed between 1945 and the present in foster families and the youth welfare services.
De Winter’s publications include Kinderen als Medeburgers (‘Children as Fellow Citizens, 1995), Het Alziend Oog van de Leerling, impressies over opvoeding, normen en waardering op school (‘The Pupil’s All-seeing Eye, impressions relating to education, standards and appreciation at school, 1997), Beter Maatschappelijk Opvoeden: hoofdlijnen van een eigentijdse participatie-pedagogiek (‘Better Education within Society: outlines of contemporary participatory educational theory’, 2000) and ‘Verbeter de wereld, begin bij de opvoeding’: vanachter de voordeur naar democratie en verbinding (‘Change the World, start with Child-rearing: towards democracy and connection after closing your front door’, 2011).
